We would like to thank our customers for their continued support and use of our Reusable Bioptome over the past 30+ years. Little did founder Jake Scholten know that in his small shop tucked away on a quiet street in Palo Alto California, he would develop a device that would be instrumental in the care of thousands of transplant patients and likely well over 100,000 biopsy procedures.
As in most areas of medicine and patient care, the focus has shifted from reusable durable goods to disposable products for several reasons. Convenience, easier billing, the high cost of reprocessing, and risk of cross contamination all top the list. Many facilities have been very successful using our Reusable Bioptome for decades; others have had less success with device care and reprocessing for multiple reasons.
While the decision has been made to end the production of our pioneer reusable Scholten Bioptome, the unique qualities that make it a superior device in heart biopsy procedures will continue on in the form of our new and innovative device – the disposable Novatome™. This single-use bioptome shares the same cutting jaw and flex shaft as the reusable Bioptome with the same style and shape actuator handle; all the identical features in a single-use configuration that is sharp, sterile, and ready to use.
